Fiorentina vs Atalanta

Italy, Serie A, 04.octobre.2015, 20:00h

Fiorentina impressed everyone with their performance last weekend in a derby game against Inter away from home, where Viola took clearly deserved 4:1 victory. They have opened up the game in a best possible way, taking a lead in fourth minute via Ilicic already, while Kalinic scored two more in first twenty five minutes. Things to be worse for Inter, Miranda defend got straight red card in 31st minute and the hosts were left playing with a man less. Fiorentina-vs-AtalantaHowever, Viola was already more than satisfied with the result they had, as the home side managed to temporarily reduce the deficit in 60th minute thanks to a goal from Icardi, while Kalinic sealed his third goal in 76th minute for the final 4:1 result. After this victory, which was their fourth consecutive in Serie A, Viola finds themselves at the top of the table together with Inter and no doubt that their target is now to remain at the top for as long as possible time. Three steady performances in front of own fans are ahead of them, without a goal conceded and no doubt that Atalanta has small chances to get away with something here. Moreover, hosts are coming from also a morale boosting victory in Europa League on Thursday evening, when the team outplayed Portuguese side Belenenses away from home with a 4:0 result (Bernardeschi, Babacar, Rossi and own goal). Coach Paulo Sousa rotated his squad for Europa League game, so he is expected to field up quite rested and best starting eleven. Left full back Manuel Pasqual (2/0) remains injured, same as right back Gilberto (4/0). Defensive Facuno Roncaglia (7/0) remains doubtful but with chances to play.

Atalanta surprised with their performance in last round, on Monday evening at home against Sampdoria when the hosts took all three points with a 2:1 victory. The game itself was very equal from both sides, but the players of Atalanta looked a bit more concrete in offense and with the ball to their feet, enough to take all three points. They have opened up the game with a goal scored as an own from Sampdoria’s defender, but had to wait till first minute of additional time in second half to doubles up the lead via Denis.

Two minutes later, Soriano reduced the deficit for the final 2:1 score. This was second consecutive vicoty for Atalanta, as they previously won on the road against Empoli also pulling out narrow one goal differnce win (1:0). At the same time, it’s their fourth match without defeat but the team didn’t meet any seriously stronger side, using easier schedule in a pretty good way. After six rounds, they are eight at the table with three victories, two draws and a defeat, and in case the team conitnues in a similar manner, they shouldn’t worry much about relegating troubles this season. Striker Mauricio Pinilla (7/2) is injured, but right full back Andrea Masiello steps up here after full recovery from injury. Subsitute midfielder Marcelo Estigarribia (1/0) and left back Davide Brivio already represent long term absentees.

Fiorentina have won their last 7 matches against Atalanta.
Fiorentina have kept a clean sheet in their last 5 home matches in Serie A.
Fiorentina have scored at least 2 goals in their last 9 home matches against Atalanta.

Fiorentina’s strikers seems to be in a very good form, while their defensive lineup shows no weaknesses early in the season. Atalanta is traditionally poor traveler and simply have no quality to match up against Viola away from home. In form leaders should take an easy victory here, easier than the odds suggest.
